  • India has the largest iron reserves in Asia. Due to superior quality Indian iron has great demand in the international market.
  • There are mainly two types of ion ore in India.
    • Haematite
    • Magnetite

  • Some important iron ore in the various states of India are:

  • Odisha:
    • Sundergarh, Mayurbhanj, Jhar, Gurumahisani, Sulaipet, Badampahar, Bonai(Sundergarh) and Kiruburu (Kendujhar)
  • Jharkhand:
    • Noamundi in Poori and Gua in Pashchimi Singhbhum district.
  • Chattisgarh:
    • Bailadila, Dantewada and Durg
  • Andhra Pradesh:
    • Cuddapah and Anantapur district
  • Telangana:
    • Karimnagar and Warangal 
  • Tamil Nadu:
    • Salem and Nilgiris districts
  • Maharashtra: 
    • Ratnagiri
  • Karnataka:
    • Baba Budan hills, Kudremukh in Chikkamagaluru district and parts of Shivamogga
  • Karnataka, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Goa, and Jharkhand are the five major iron ore producers states in India. These five states produce 99% of total production in India.
  • Karnataka is the largest iron ore producer state in India. Karnataka alone produces about 25% of iron ore in India.
